Tips of Daily Yacht Maintenance
1. Use lubricating oil of appropriate viscosity grade
For gasoline engines, API SM/CF/GF-4, SL/CF/CF-3 grade pure gasoline engine oil should be selected according to the conditions of use; diesel engines should use API CI-4/SL, CH-4/ according to mechanical load. The pure diesel engine oil of SL grade shall be no less than the standard specified by the engine manufacturer.
2. Regularly change the oil and filter
The lubricating oil of any quality grade will change during use. After a certain mileage, the performance deteriorates, which will bring various problems to the engine. In order to avoid the occurrence of faults, the oil should be changed regularly according to the conditions of use, and the amount of oil used should be moderate (usually the upper limit of the oil scale is better). When the oil passes through the pores of the filter, solid particles and viscous substances in the oil are accumulated in the filter. If the filter is clogged, the oil will not pass through the filter element, it will swell the filter element or open the safety valve, and pass through the bypass valve, still bring the waste back to the lubrication part, causing the engine to wear and the internal pollution is intensified.
3. Regular cleaning of the fuel system
When fuel is supplied to the combustion chamber through the oil passage, it will inevitably form colloid and coke deposits, deposit in the oil passages and injectors and the combustion chamber, interfere with fuel flow, destroy normal air-fuel ratio, and make fuel Poor atomization, causing performance problems such as engine shaking, detonation, unstable idle speed, and poor acceleration. Regularly clean the fuel system to control the build-up of coke and keep the engine in top condition.
4. Regular replacement of anti-corrosion anode
The hull, engine main engine and transmission system are equipped with anti-corrosion anode to protect the machine parts from corrosion and salt corrosion. It is necessary to check the anti-corrosion anode regularly. If it is used in salt water, the inspection frequency should be increased.
5. Regular hull deck maintenance
Regular cleaning and cleaning: The surface of the boat should be kept clean and the deck should be cleaned frequently. Surfaces stained with oil and other materials can be cleaned with ordinary household cleaners. Solvents with strong corrosiveness should not be used. It is also not possible to use decontamination powder or wire scrubbing to avoid scratches and affect the appearance. If the stain is difficult to remove, it can be cleaned with gasoline, kerosene, diesel, styrene, acetone, etc., but be washed immediately with water to prevent intrusion into the structure. It can also be supplemented with a tool spatula for cleaning, but use bamboo chips or plastic sheets with a hardness lower than that of FRP to avoid scratching the surface. A soft material such as a soft towel can be used for scrubbing.
Timely removal of salt frost: The boat sailing in the sea area should remove the salt crystals (salt cream) attached to the surface of the boat in time. Because of the focusing effect of the convex lens in the sunlight, the surface glass reinforced plastic will accelerate the aging under the action of high temperature.
Regular waxing and polishing: In order to make the hull exterior bright and protect the gel coat layer, the boat's exterior should be waxed and polished regularly. The material is recommended to use wax for yachts. It can be used two to three times, with an interval of 2 hours per pass, to form a tough wax film on the surface of the FRP. It is best to polish with a hand polisher to make the surface shine as new.
